This week’s Wrecking Wednesday comes to you from Whitney Point, NY where our team removed Route 79 and Route 28 over the Tioughnioga River.  Our crew began removing the concrete decking working from the west abutment, while using a containment system installed below the bridge to catch debris to ensure the materials did not fall into the river below.  After completing the deck removal of both spans, the debris and demolition material was disposed of at an offsite approved facility.

Once the deck removal was complete, we began removing the first span of the truss, as we detached it from the abutment, and let it lay to rest on the ground beneath.  From there we would process the bridge into moveable pieces to be disposed of for recycling.  As we removed the center pier in which both spans were connected to, we repeated the process of detaching the final span.  A temporary bridge was put in place until the new structure was installed.
