This week’s Wrecking Wednesday features the Routes 26 & 79 bridge over the Tioghnioga River!

A project specific Modular Containment System (MCS) was placed under the western portion of the bridge in span 1 to catch any debris generated by the deck removal process. The deck and sidewalk were cut into 6 foot by 9 foot pieces utilizing a hydraulic excavator and hoe ram until the center pier was reached.

The MCS was then moved easterly under span 2, and the second span was then cut and removed. Saw cutting was also used for specific areas.

Due to the length of the bridge, a high level of coordination between operators was necessary to demolish the existing bridge and carefully remove all debris and materials.
