Wrecking Wednesday comes to you this week from Naval Support Facility Indian Head on the shores of the Potomac River in Maryland. Here we highlight the controlled selective demolition and decontamination of five World War 2 era buildings.
Our Sessler Wrecking team demolished two structures in their entirety, leaving the foundations, slabs, and walls intact 2 feet below grade on the remaining buildings. All while excavating around live direct buried steam piping.
The primary hazard were explosive ordinances, of which the main constituent of concern was nitrocellulose which was present within tanks and equipment, process piping, and the majority of building surfaces.
Sessler Wrecking worked in harmony with our client and the US NAVY to safely complete the project on time and within budget.
