Spring Street Parking Garage, New Brunswick, New Jersey
Midweek means one thing: Wrecking Wednesday! This week, Sessler Wrecking is shining the spotlight on the demolition of the Spring Street Parking Garage in New Brunswick, New Jersey!
This project involved the removal of a 42,000-square-foot multi-level garage located in a tight urban setting—surrounded by active streets and built directly against an adjoining structure. These site conditions require precision, constant awareness, and careful execution to protect the neighboring property.
The garage’s design posed unique challenges, with elevated ramps and decks built from a post-tensioned concrete system—steel tendons tightened within the slab to boost strength and span. This method stores significant energy, making cutting risky without careful planning. To ensure safety, our crew used a step-by-step approach, dismantling the structure section by section and lowering each elevated slab for processing.
Daily coordination with local authorities and police kept traffic moving and ensured public safety throughout the process. With demolition taking place alongside busy city streets, the team relied on detailed planning and real-time adjustments to minimize disruptions for commuters, pedestrians, and nearby businesses.
Through strategic planning, clear communication, and an unwavering focus on safety, Sessler Wrecking completed the project on time while overcoming the logistical challenges of working in a dense urban setting.
