Scenic Hudson Silos, Kingston, New York
The wait is finally over; it is time for another Wrecking Wednesday! This week, Sessler Wrecking is featuring a unique industrial demolition at the Scenic Hudson Silos in Kingston, New York, along the Hudson River!
Sessler Wrecking was tasked with the abatement and demolition of nine 145-foot-tall concrete cement storage silos, a complex project that demanded precision, advanced equipment, and strict adherence to safety protocols.
To safely access the upper portions of the silos, our crew utilized our PC1250 Ultra High Reach Excavator, which methodically dismantled the structures. In total, about 10,000 tons of concrete were processed on-site, underscoring the magnitude and complexity of the project.
In addition to the large-scale demolition, the project involved specialized saw cutting of the silo walls. These cuts were carefully executed to create benches, which will be repurposed for public use.
An important component of this project was the preservation of the historic integrity and local artifacts of adjacent structures. With the silos situated close to historic buildings, every step required careful planning to ensure no damage occurred. By protecting these structures, Sessler Wrecking helped prepare the area for its next chapter—as a New York State Park, blending history with future recreation.
