It is time for another edition of Wrecking Wednesday! This week, Sessler Wrecking is spotlighting a pedestrian bridge demolition in Yonkers, New York.

Sessler Wrecking was assigned to dismantle the Sadore Lane Pedestrian Bridge, which crossed Central Park Avenue, a seven-lane divided highway. First, steel girders were supported at the center, followed by the concrete deck being severed at the center using jackhammers. The main girders, with the concrete deck intact, were then cut with torches and lifted over the traffic signal with a crane, ensuring they were safely set down in the specified landing zone. Following the removal of the main span the approaches on each side of the bridge were removed

Our team’s expertise, accuracy, and collaboration were key in working around traffic signals and utilities, keeping traffic flowing smoothly, and protecting the adjacent retaining wall throughout the project.
