Rt. 34 over the Erie Canal, Weedsport, New York
It’s our favorite day of the week! Sessler Wrecking is shining the spotlight on a bridge demolition in Weedsport, NY, for this week’s Wrecking Wednesday.
Sessler Wrecking was tasked with the removal of a 21,676-square-foot, five-span bridge spanning the New York State Barge Canal. The bridge featured a complex 210-foot center span, with two 30-foot cantilevered girders on each side supporting a 150-foot hung center span using a pin-and-hanger design.
The project required careful planning and precise execution to safely dismantle the structure. Approximately 540 cubic yards of superstructure concrete and over 600 cubic yards of substructure concrete were removed, including underwater piers and piles. In addition, 729 tons of structural steel were recycled, reflecting our commitment to sustainable demolition and responsible material management.
