This was a two-span bridge demolition on Route 209 over Esopus Creek in Ulster County, New York.

The bridge deck was cut into 6-foot by 8-foot sections with an excavator and then folded back onto the deck. Diaphragms and cross braces between the girders were removed as the deck was demolished, except for near the abutments and pier.

A modular containment system was utilized under the bridge to collect debris during the process to protect the waterway. Safety for the demolition crews was a top priority, as always, working over the Esopus Creek as well as maintaining traffic during the duration of the project.
