The wait is finally over; it is time for another Wrecking Wednesday! This week, we are shining the spotlight on a bridge demolition in New Paltz, New York.
Sessler Wrecking was tasked with demolishing the 41,000 SF I-87 Bridge over the Wallkill River, a pin-and-hanger steel-supported concrete deck bridge with suspended center spans.
The project involved a carefully planned two-phase demolition sequence across both bridges, requiring extensive engineering coordination and detailed planning. A major component of the operation included two critical crane picks, with both cranes staged on the existing bridge backspans to safely execute the removal work.
To protect the surrounding waterways, shielding systems were installed to prevent concrete debris from entering the river and adjacent water bodies. This complex effort required precise sequencing, careful execution, and a strong commitment to safety and environmental protection throughout.
