Kick those midweek blues to the curb with a brand-new Wrecking Wednesday! This week, Sessler Wrecking is highlighting a bridge demolition in Perinton, New York.
Sessler Wrecking completed the demolition of the 34,000-square-foot I-490 bridges over the Erie Canal. The bridges consisted of a steel-supported concrete deck system with suspended center spans connected through a pin-and-hanger arrangement.
The project followed a carefully coordinated two-phase demolition sequence across both bridges, requiring extensive engineering and detailed planning. A major component of the operation involved two critical crane picks, with cranes positioned on the existing bridge backspans to safely execute the controlled dismantling of the structure.
To minimize environmental impacts, protective shielding was installed to intercept demolition materials and prevent debris from entering the Erie Canal.
