Sessler Wrecking completes demolition of former textile mill
Sessler Wrecking has completed the demolition and environmental remediation of a former Burlington Industries textile mill in Statesville, North Carolina, United States.
The project took place on a 7-acre Superfund site and involved the removal of a 221,000-sq-ft (20,530-sq-m) structure.
The scope of work also included the demolition of a nearby boiler house containing three industrial boilers, which were connected to the main facility by an underground steam tunnel.
Additional structures removed during the project included a pump house, multiple water cisterns, and a 250,000-gallon concrete water tank that had been used for fire protection.
According to Sessler Wrecking: “The team conducted wet demolition in structurally unstable areas containing asbestos-containing roofing.”
The company also stated that it carried out asbestos abatement, backfilling, grading, and general site preparation.
The work was carried out as part of ongoing remediation efforts on the federally designated contaminated site.
