Sessler Wrecking demolishes former yogurt facility
The New York demolition project generated about 3,600 tons of recyclable scrap steel and 2,070 tons of clean concrete.
Sessler Wrecking completed the industrial demolition of a former yogurt manufacturing facility in Norwich, New York.
The large-scale project included the demolition of 41 structures of a combined 360,000 square feet ranging from one to two stories in height. The Waterloo, New York-based firm says a key component of the project included the controlled demolition of nine asbestos-containing buildings that covered about 25,000 square feet of the facility.
According to Sessler, the project generated about 3,600 tons of recyclable scrap steel and 2,070 tons of clean concrete during demolition activities.
Sessler performed additional work to remove five above ground storage tanks, extensive piping and pipe rack systems, utility poles, generators, trees and brush throughout the property.
Following the demolition, Sessler completed a comprehensive site restoration effort, including the backfilling of basements, pits and other subsurface voids. The firm says about 5,000 tons of backfill materials were utilized to restore the site to a level grade, leaving the property prepared for future redevelopment.
