Bridge over Route 1, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
We are back with another exciting installment of Wrecking Wednesday! This week, Sessler Wrecking is shining a spotlight on the demolition of a bridge over Route 1 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!
Sessler Wrecking was tasked with the removal of a four-span, 7,000-square-foot spread box beam bridge. This complex project required meticulous planning and precise execution to ensure minimal disruption to the traveling public and the surrounding community.
The scope of work included the demolition and removal of over 600 cubic yards of substructure concrete, which required careful coordination and the use of specialized equipment to dismantle and lower large structural components safely.
The demolition was completed in just four consecutive nights, with the team utilizing nightly lane closures of Route 1 to remove one bridge span per night.
Demonstrating a commitment to sustainable practices, all concrete material generated from the bridge removal was retained on site for future reuse.
