Pedestrian Bridges, Cheektowaga, New York
It is time for another action-packed Wrecking Wednesday! This week, Sessler Wrecking is highlighting a bridge demolition in Cheektowaga, New York.
Sessler Wrecking was tasked with the demolition of two 110-foot pedestrian bridges, each with separate entrance ramps to I-190. Due to the bridges’ location above active roadways, the project required careful coordination and precise execution.
Because the roadways beneath the ramps could only be closed for an eight-hour window each night, most of the demolition had to be completed from below. This tight timeframe made the project more complex and demanded a fast-paced, highly coordinated effort.
Each night, the crew installed roadway protection systems before beginning superstructure removal. Despite the challenges, Sessler Wrecking ensured that the ramps were returned to full service by morning, keeping traffic moving and minimizing impact on the public.
