Midweek vibes are in full swing, welcome to another exciting Wrecking Wednesday! This week, we are highlighting the demolition of steel barges in Lyons, New York.

Sessler Wrecking was tasked with the demolition and removal of three large steel barges, each more than 50 years old, from the Lyons Dry Dock. The barges were part of the New York State Erie Canal System.

The project was completed on a tight timeline, as demolition had to be finished before the end of winter, prior to water levels being raised in the area to support canal operations.

In addition to the primary scope of work, our crew performed selective demolition to carefully remove and salvage a rare and historic 40-ton steam engine located inside one of the barges. This large engine is one of only two of its kind in the world. After being safely extracted, it was donated to the NYS Steam Engine Association.
