Strathmore Foot Bridge, Montague Falls, Massachusetts
Midweek vibes are in full swing, welcome to another exciting Wrecking Wednesday! This week, Sessler Wrecking is highlighting the demolition of the Strathmore Foot Bridge in Montague Falls, Massachusetts.
Sessler Wrecking was tasked with removing the historic riveted steel pedestrian bridge, featuring a 152-foot main span, originally constructed in 1913. The bridge spanned an active hydroelectric power supply canal and formerly served the Strathmore Mill complex in Turners Falls.
Situated over the canal and adjacent to public walkways, the bridge required enhanced, site-specific safety measures to protect the public, the waterway, and our onsite personnel, ensuring a safe and efficient operation from start to finish.
Challenging access and logistics made this project complex, but thanks to our best-in-class team and close coordination with the owner, it was completed during a planned two-week shutdown of the hydroelectric plant, finished on schedule, and the canal was reopened as planned.
