Croton-Harmon Station, Poughkeepsie, New York
Kick those midweek blues to the curb with a brand-new Wrecking Wednesday! This week, Sessler Wrecking is showcasing the industrial demolition of Croton-Harmon Station in Poughkeepsie, New York. This project showcases our ability to work safely and efficiently within an active facility, ensuring operations remain on track.
Sessler Wrecking was tasked with demolishing a large-scale former train repair facility and bridge over the rail tracks, a key step in the site’s modernization. Located just outside New York City, Croton-Harmon Station serves both the Metro-North Railroad and Amtrak Empire Corridor Lines – one of the world’s largest and most active commuter railroad networks.
Every phase of demolition was meticulously planned to keep rail operations uninterrupted. The project involved complex logistics, including tracks on both sides of the facility and the technical separation of a portion of the building that remained in use. During the work, we removed approximately 2 miles of railway in an active rail yard while maintaining strict safety and operational protocols.
Working immediately adjacent to the Metro-North Hudson Line and Amtrak Empire Corridor, our team coordinated daily with rail authorities to ensure smooth train operations. Beyond demolition, the scope included asbestos abatement and soil remediation.
This project highlights Sessler Wrecking’s expertise in complex shoring, building separation, and demolition adjacent to active railroad facilities, showcasing our commitment to safety, precision, and keeping critical infrastructure running smoothly.
