We are halfway through the week, and it is time to kick off our very first Wrecking Wednesday of 2025! This week, Sessler Wrecking is highlighting the demolition of two bridges over Otter Creek in Rutland, Vermont.

Sessler Wrecking was responsible for demolishing two bridges and removing concrete decks and a steel two-span truss bridge. The project included realigning the roadway and performing roadwork for a new girder bridge, as well as removing the old truss bridge after the new one was completed.

On River Street, our crew removed the concrete deck and sidewalk, using barges to catch debris. The truss bridge, including a thru and pony truss, was dismantled with excavators detaching steel from the center pier. The pony truss was pulled out for offsite recycling, while the thru truss was pulled closer to land and cut into smaller sections.

For the Ripley Street bridges, we used a modular containment system to catch debris. The crew removed the decks and trusses, pulling the steel onto land for cutting and recycling offsite.
